Maureen H. Smith-Gaffney, 56

FAYETTEVILLE, N.Y.  There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Saint Christine Church, celebrated by Father Peter Haladej, for Maureen H. Smith-Gaffney, 56, who passed away Sunday morning at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Maureen was born July 9, 1952 in Lowellville, the daughter of Walter P. and Genevieve Ruddy Smith.

She was a graduate of Ursuline High School with the class of 1970. She also graduated from Kent State University in 1974 and earned her Ph.D. at The Ohio State University.

Maureen was a former member of the church, until moving to Michigan in 1979.

Besides her husband, Dennis J. Gaffney, whom she married Oct. 25, 1985, she leaves a daughter, Honora Gaffney and a son, Timothy Gaffney, both of Fayetteville; a brother, Walter P. (Laura) Smith of Frisco, Texas; an aunt, Anne Moore of Youngstown; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Christine Church.
