At my graduation party, everyone wanted to know what I was going to do. I had absolutely no clue...
After struggling through and painfully graduating at the bottom third of the class, I started college, only to find out that I obviously graduated with some pretty smart people, as my UHS diploma had put me far ahead of the class in college, waiting for the kids from local schools to catch up. Wasn't really until Junior year that I started to learn anything new.
But getting my Bachelor's degree at UCLA (University at the Corner of Lincoln Ave) was going to have to wait. Twelve years of Catholic education took its toll, so being rather over saturated with formal learning, I dropped out of college, bought a motorcycle, and traveled up and down the east coast for a while.
Then I took a job as a bartender at Alberini's in Niles
and had a total blast, but, realizing there was no future in it, I went back to finish school with a degree in Psych and a minor in photography (art)
At age 27, my parents grew up and left me, so I took a sales position with Bankers Life and Casualty, specializing in life and health insurance and the Medicare market, and eventually went out on my own as an independent insurance broker, adding business and group insurance to the portfolio, as well as 401K rollovers and retirement planning
I remember answering those inquiries about my future plans at my high school graduation party, "Whatever it is I end up doing, I don't want to be punching a clock doing the same thing over and over, day after day"
Well, I did get my wish...
