Ed Hulme

EDWARD J. HULME JR

LAKE MILTON – It is with great sadness that the Hulme family shares the passing of their son and brother, Edward J. Hulme Jr. Ed suffered a heart attack at his home in Lake Milton.

Ed was born on Feb. 12, 1952, in Fort Campbell, Ky. to Edward J. and Helen Lamb Hulme.

He grew up on Youngstown’s North Side and attended St. Edward School. He was a 1970 graduate of Ursuline High School, where he was a record setting member of the track team. He was also involved in the development of Ursuline’s cross country program. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1975 with a degree in Business Administration and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Ed lived in Atlanta for over 25 years. He built a successful career in selling electronics and software. He was an avid runner and ran in many Peachtree Road Races. While living in Georgia, he enjoyed the wonderful local restaurants, musical events, Georgia Football games and Atlanta Braves baseball games. Attending the 1996 Olympics with his brother, Geoff, was a highlight of those years.

Ed was an extraordinary person with varied interests. His friends and family will miss his easy going manner and his welcoming laugh. He had a great sense of humor and always had an interesting story to share. He was a master of the art of conversation, current affairs, historical events, a boxing match and the mechanics of a swim stroke. Ed had a fierce intelligence.

Ed loved and cherished the beauty of nature. He described the beauty of Lake Milton and Mill Creek Park in poetic detail. His sensitivity to beauty extended to his love of music, art and literature.

Ed was a great sports fan and his TV was constantly tuned to ESPN. You could count on Ed to share in the excitement of the latest big sports event. He treasured the Ohio State Buckeyes and especially enjoyed football Saturdays. He and his mother had several fun sports traditions, including filling out their March Madness brackets together and guessing which mascot Lee Corso would choose at the end of GameDay.

Ed leaves behind his mother, Helen Lamb Hulme; his sisters, Mary of Youngstown and Anne Stocking (Carl) of Westfield, N.J.; his brothers, Thomas (Dayna) of Nashville, Tenn. and Geoffrey (Daryl) of Greenwich, Conn. He also leaves nine nieces and nephews.

Ed was predeceased by his father and his brother, John.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at St. Columba Cathedral from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

A Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The Hulme family invites all family and friends to join us following Mass at the MVR Italian Restaurant on Walnut Street.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Millcreek Children’s Center, 44 Essex St. Youngstown, OH 44502.

Ed endured a long illness with incredible courage and without complaint. He lead a life that was an inspiration. We will remember his beautiful curly hair and his ever present bright smile. His legacy is the richness of his creative soul and his gentle heart.

“We will miss you Ed, you left us too soon.”

“And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.” - John
